For Immediate Release:

That Mennonite Joke makes a Splash!

The Keystone Cinema in Steinbach was bursting at its seams this weekend with the resounding success of That Mennonite Joke film premiere!  The docu-comedy is now available for viewing on MTS TV VOD [in Manitoba]! An audience of 1-70 years of age began queuing up an hour and half before the screening and the theatre filled to capacity quickly.  Many people had to be turned away.   From the attendee survey, the average rating given for the film was 4.5 stars [out of 5] and 97% of attendees would recommend the film to their friends.

Also announced at the event was the release of the mobile app That Mennonite Joke Book – which is exactly that, a mobile joke book of all your favourite Mennonite jokes! Over 300 jokes were sourced through the @MennoJoke Twitter and Facebook pages since last summer and have been flooded with jokes from the community since.  Prairie Boy Productions partnered with Electric Monk Media to develop an app with this content and the app is now available on the Apple iTunes App Store: http://app.mennojoke.com/

On the heels of this release, That Mennonite Joke is an OFFICIAL SELECTION at the Winnipeg Real to Reel Film Festival [WRTR], playing February 19 & 20. WRTR’s purpose is to connect filmmakers with audiences through visual media that encourages, challenges and inspires us to pursue positive values and to a greater understanding of the human journey. The event takes place February 16-21 at 1315 Gateway Road in Winnipeg.  Then followed by OFFICIAL SELECTION at the ShÄrt International Comedy Film Festival [SICFF] February 27, 2016 followed by a panel discussion on clean comedy. SICFF is an event that highlights comedy and laughter above all else and takes place at the Park Theatre in Winnipeg.

That Mennonite Joke is now also taking requests for community screenings. http://booking.mennojoke.com/ [community bookings in Manitoba will begin in July].

That Mennonite Joke is a hilarious, surprising and insightful documentary-comedy hybrid film that explores humour in Mennonite culture through the perspective of clean comedian Matt Falk. As Matt prepares for his first live TV comedy special, he wonders if his Mennonite culture is funny enough to include more in his act.  He takes a comedic walkabout through his heritage speaking with Mennonite humorists, authors, and entertainers such as Miriam Toews, Armin Wiebe, Corny Rempel, Leland Klassen and many more to gather material for his routine.

"I had so much fun working on this film.” Says Matt, “It turned out really funny, but if you watch for it, you can see how passionate I became about my culture closer to the end. Working on That Mennonite Joke really did change me in ways I did not expect."

That Mennonite Joke was produced by Prairie Boy Productions for MTS TV Stories From Home, produced with a grant awarded by BravoFACT [Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent] a division of Bell Media Inc., and with the participation of Manitoba Film and Video Production Tax Credit, and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. The film was the winner of the Stories from Home Pitch Competition at Gimli Film Festival 2014, and winner of BravoFACTUAL support.

That Mennonite Joke Book is produced by Prairie Boy Productions and Electric Monk Media, and supported by On Screen Manitoba, Winnipeg Film Group and Manitoba Film & Music.
